Even if Chad Owens never returns a kick, or catches a pass, signing the 35-year-old free agent has already paid huge dividends for the Riders.
Owens has been a mentor to younger players hoping to even come close to his CFL longevity.
In addition to showing rookies the ropes on the field, Owens has been a teacher of what it takes to be a pro in the locker room.
His attitude is impeccable. Owens hasn't whined about being injured, he has simply embraced an off field role to help young players improve mentally and physically, seeing that as his contribution to a Rider team making a desperate push for the playoffs.
And I'm betting we will see the Hawaiian "flyin" with football in hand Sunday at Mosaic Stadium during the annual Labour Day Classic against Winnipeg.
