Finally, it's my Parting Shot to dare become political...
But, thanks to President Donald Trump...sports has been drawn into a hot political debate, making what has happened over the last few days open season for anyone to have an opinion...even a lowly sports broadcaster in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan!
Let's me make one thing clear right away...the reasons why Trump is president of the largest, most powerful nation in the Free World is because he's rich, he had a high profile through reality T-V and he appeared to be anti-establishment in his speeches in becoming the Republican candidate. In all three instances, voting for him shows how easily Americans are duped into being foolish. Celebrity doesn't mean smart while being rich and claiming to be anti-establishment is like talking out both sides of your mouth!
Last year, I wasn't a supporter of Colin Kaepernick kneeling for the Star Spangled Banner before N-F-L games in protest of police abuse and racism. I felt there had to be a better way to get a point across. However, by not condemning the racially-charged incident in Charlotesville earlier this year, Trump has left himself wide open to racial tension and unrest. The increased kneeling of N-F-L players during the anthem is not directed at the flag, the anthem, the military or anything such as that. It is directed at a man who is not fit to be President of the United States!
Until there is a better way found to express that discontent...that doesn't include violence...I don't have a problem with this silent, peaceful protest! For now!
