The Riders really have little to lose by signing former NFL running back Trent Richardson and it made a lot more sense than the Vince Young "experiment".
Young was well...old.. and tried to adapt to a much different game with a bigger field an extra player on both sides of the ball, tough enough for an American quarterback who had been playing, let along inactive for several years.
Richardson is about 12 years younger and as a running back who doesn't have to figure out nearly as much to be effective, even though he hasn't played a regular season game in the past four years.
With Cameron Marshall on the injured list, the Riders need a number one running back, provided the offensive line blocks better than the Calgary game.
And if Richardson isn't a knothead in the locker room he can be judged on his ability or lack thereof to give the Riders second-and-manageable.
If he can't, Richardson can join Young on the former NFL scrap-heap having known he gave football one last try.
