It's my Parting Shot to talk about defence on many fronts...
A busy sports weekend, especially for the Saskatoon Media Group as three of our four sports broadcast properties are in action in key games...along with the big team that we no longer have rights to. And, all will have the focus for their potential success hinging on their respective defensive play!
Starting with tonight...the Riders need to find a way to keep the Stampeders to 15 or fewer points, as they were able to a few weeks back at home...all while gambling that star receiver Duron Carter doesn't get embarrased as a starting cornerback!
Tomorrow afternoon, the U of S Huskies football team is in Edmonton with a chance to clinch the fourth and final playoff spot with a victory over Alberta. The Dogs can score points...averaging almost 32 per game...but have trouble stopping the opposition from doing the same, allowing 161 points during their four consecutive losses...or 40 per game!
Tomorrow night, the Saskatoon Blades face another need to bounce back from a poor defensive effort when they visit the Prince Albert Raiders. In nine games to start the season, the Bridge City Bunch have allowed four or more goals eight times! A loss tomorrow and the Blades are facing a 3-and-10 start to the season before October ends with games next week against Victoria, Swift Current and Brandon!
On Sunday, it's the Prairie Football Conference final with the pressure squarely on the Saskatoon Hilltops defence to limit what Sawyer Buettner and the Regina Thunder can do on offence. Stifling the Regina running game and getting pressure on Buettner when he attempts to pass will be the keys for the Toppers at Saskatoon Minor Football Field in what will, likely, be their toughest test towards winning a fourth consecutive Canadian Bowl title!
