Once again, I was on the road and on the air Saturday when the Riders lost to Edmonton to finish fourth in the C-F-L West, insuring that they'll play all of their playoff games in the East...no matter whether they play one, two or three times. I saw some random plays from my broadcast location at Rogers Place in Edmonton, but I want to watch all of the game...hopefully Tuesday morning...before I comment on what I saw and what I think should happen in Ottawa this Sunday!
That was quite the trade put together by Ottawa, Nashville and Colorado yesterday. Matt Duchene gets his wish and moves away from the Avalanche to the Senators, Kyle Turris lands in Music City and the Avs get goaltender Andrew Hammond, three prospects and three draft picks...names that will be under a microscope in a few years to see if they turned into anything worth giving in to Duchene and trading him!
As far as I'm concerned, the annual series of Canada-Russia junior games has run its course. I'd rather see a real W-H-L All-Star Game format return...and make it available to be hosted by all Dub teams and cities...yes, even the U-S Division ones. Make sure the best three 20-year-olds from each conference, the best five 19-year-olds, 18s and 17s are selected along with the top two 16-year-olds from each conference make up the team. Quit trying to sell these games as a last chance for Hockey Canada to evaluate possible players for the Canadian team going to the Christmas-time World Junior Championship when we all now know that Hockey Canada already has their roster pretty much decided on! Enough is enough!!
