Jason Maas' decision to kick a field goal and try to score a winning touchdown after stopping Calgary's offence with a two-and-out was a sound one...back in the 60s when C-F-L offences weren't as complex and prolific as they are now. Especially the present-day Stampeders' offence. A third and four from the Calgary 13 screamed go for it for Edmonton to score the tying touchdown! Alas, the Eskimos are done.
As are the Saskatchewan Roughriders, who gave up a last-minute scoring drive to Ricky Ray and the Argonauts to lose the C-F-L Eastern final yesterday. Had the Green and White won, there should've been a call to Toronto police about a robbery because the Riders almost stole a game they had no business winning...considering how inept their offence was for almost three-and-a-half quarters. At least they got this far...considering the power rankings had them ninth and last back in June!
I rather enjoyed Craig Button calling out Montreal's Marc Bergevin and Edmonton's Peter Chiarelli for not having built good enough teams after, both, the Habs and Oilers lost badly on Saturday. The Canadiens 6-0 home loss to Toronto made me smile, especially for how happy it would make long-time Maple Leafs' fans...like Rodger Broadhead feel!
