It's my Parting Shot for some Weekend Short Shots...
Aside from Christmas, there must be something in the air...or in the water...that has people talking expansion and/or relocation in the N-H-L and the C-F-L these days!
First the C-F-L and yesterday's news of a potential 10th franchise in Halifax...again. There's people, who have money, with interest in placing a fifth Eastern team in the Maritimes. But, what is lacking is the biggest need...a place to play. There isn't a good enough stadium in Halifax for the C-F-L as of right now!
Then there's talk of owners of the N-B-A's Rockets being interested in bringing an N-H-L franchise to Houston. The former home of Gordie Howe and his sons with the Aeros of the World Hockey Association would be a great place...as would Seattle. But, in both instances, an expansion team or relocated franchise would require a modern arena...something that Quebec City already has! Along with a rabid fan base from years gone by with the Nordiques and a built-in rivalry with Montreal. Alas, the Quebec capital is at least third on the list for when the N-H-L decides to relocate or expand to 32 teams...which is sure to happen!
As for Saskatoon, getting a C-F-L and/or an N-H-L team is a long way from happening...something I won't see in my lifetime!
