It's my Parting Shot for my Weekend Short Shots...
I believe the only fan base in the C-F-L in favour of yesterday's earlier start to the 2018 season...and a possible earlier yet beginning in 2019 or 2020...is RiderNation. That's because Saskatchewan is the only C-F-L market that isn't home to an N-H-L franchise! Plus, an argument also made in Toronto, Hamilton, Winnipeg and B-C is that people don't want to attend football games in May, June and July because that is prime "cottage country" time for them! The C-F-L schedule will never be perfect for everyone, it behooves the league to do what they feel is best and stick with that!
Speaking of earlier starts, the Saskatchewan Rush open their 2018 National Lacrosse League sked while the calendar still sats 2017! And, several teams have already played a game last weekend...like the Toronto Rock whom the Rush visits tomorrow night! Since G-M and head coach Derek Keenan continues to, apparently, have compromising photos of opposition G-Ms in his possession, and keeps on fleecing them in trades, Saskatchewan will be a championship contender once again!
Speaking of trades, W-H-L rosters are now frozen. That became the case at midnight Thursday turning into Friday. The freeze lifts at 11 a.m., Saskatchewan time, on December 27th while players taking part in the upcoming World Junior Championship can't be moved until after the tournament is done. Expect some interesting deals to be completed before January 10th...some even involving the Saskatoon Blades!
