Yesterday’s Saskatoonhomepage.ca News Poll question asked, if we could vote, who would we vote for in the U.S. Presidential election? As of this writing, 23% of respondents replied neither, they’d abstain. 34% said Donald Trump. The remaining 43% said Hillary Clinton. The race for the White House is a train wreck. Like Canada, the United States is supposed to be a civilized society. The primary definition of civilized is to bring a place or people to a stage of social, cultural and moral development considered to be more advanced. The second definition for civilized is polite and courteous.
Here’s another reason I’m glad I live in Saskatchewan: we don’t get and likely won’t get earthquakes. But that doesn’t mean a major quake elsewhere in the country couldn’t cause collateral damage to us financially. A new report from the C.D. Howe Institute says a major earthquake could pose a serious risk to Canada’s economy. The report calls for action to bolster the financial system so it could better handle the aftermath of such a disaster.
I see where the newspaper commissioned a poll to gauge support for a new downtown arena in Saskatoon versus renovating SaskTel Centre and the poll showed a slight preference for having a new one downtown. 40% of respondents said they want council to consider building the new one and 35% preferred to renovate the existing facility. More men favoured a new downtown arena and more women favoured SaskTel Centre renovations.
