Mankind? Peoplekind? Humankind? Seeing Justin Trudeau on a TV news clip at one of his town hall meetings In Edmonton get castigated (now there’s a word) for interrupting a woman when she said “mankind” and light-heartedly saying to her “nowadays we say people-kind because it’s more inclusive” made me wonder what the big deal was. Of course Trudeau haters take advantage of any opportunity to knock him and I’m not saying sometimes he doesn’t deserve it.
However, these town hall meetings are about Q&A’s. Someone in the audience asks a question and the PM answers. If you watch from the minute the woman is handed the microphone you see that what she does is make a prepared speech that smacks of religious cultism and that goes on and on and on without getting around to asking a question. That’s not right and not what these town hall get-togethers are about. The trouble is that all we see in the edited down news clip is the PM interrupting the women when she says mankind and he comes back with people-kind which, of course, brings the social media trolls out in force. That’s not fair to Trudeau. People are way too quick to jump to conclusions without knowing the context of a situation. You need to stop, think, and do some research before posting comments on Facebook or Twitter before you know all the facts.
