I'm just going to dive right in: I completely disagree with legalizing marijuana and then setting up shops all over the country to sell it. I think it is one of the worst ideas the Canadian government has come up with yet and is going to lend itself to even more issues - health, mental health and addictions-wise, than ever before and I believe it will simply provide a venue, clandestine in nature, for drug pushers to provide harder, more harmful drugs to those who don't see smoking or consuming weed recreationally as a big deal.
Which will then lend itself to even more money spent fighting crime be it directly associated with drug selling or the spin off crimes like armed robberies committed by addicts. I think it is an incredibly bad idea to normalize drugs in a country whose citizens can't get their alcohol consumption under control. We live in a culture of over-indulgence and getting blitzed. I do believe, after talking to folks in places where it is decriminalized, a generation of young people turning their brains to pudding before 21. And if you think your kids and grandkids aren't trying or tried weed - I think you need to open your eyes. Because it's happening in homes across the country. I completely disagree with legalizing marijuana and even more so with creating stores for it.
