Today between 8am and 5pm, food and toy hampers will be distributed to less fortunate families in Saskatoon by the Secret Santa Foundation volunteers, Board and staff. Secret Santa started in 1984 to help make sure no needy child went without a new toy at Christmas by the late morning radio personality Denny Carr who passed away from cancer in 1999.
A registered charity was set up in his name in 2000 to carry on the work and by 2006 food hampers for 600 families with children under the age of 14 were added to toys. Today, Secret Santa provides hampers of food, toys and books to 800 families. On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Secret Santa Foundation I want to express a sincere thank you and Merry Christmas to everyone involved: our many sponsors starting with Title Sponsor Saskatoon Co-op, the dozens of hard-working volunteers and, of course, everyone who makes a donation of cash or a new toy. You all have the true spirit of giving and you make Christmas a happier time for so many. If you’d like to know more about us including a list of our sponsors, our website is saskatoonsecretsanta.ca.
