I know I’m supposed to cheer for the West in the Grey Cup but I have to admit I wasn’t unhappy to see Toronto win on Sunday. That Ricky Ray is one cool cucumber at quarterback as the Riders know only too well. He was cast off by Edmonton how many years ago now? The coach, Marc Trestman, won coach of the year honours and the Argos have a great defence coached by Rider castoff Corey Chamblin.
The Argonauts have the smallest fan base in the CFL. The sports snobs in Toronto would likely fill Rogers Centre if the city had an NFL team to go along with the Leafs, Blue Jays, and Raptors but CFL game attendance is dismal, SO I’m happy for the coaches, Ricky Ray and the rest of the players for coming through and winning the championship in what a sports writer called a blizzard. I didn’t see a blizzard, just snow falling. And we had Shania Twain at half-time. Of course the social media trolls jump on her for what she was wearing and saying that she was lip syncing. In the first place, if you are still slim and trim at age 52 then wear what you like. And, for the record, it sounded to me like she was singing live. I’ve seen her a number of times over the years and her voice has changed somewhat. There was a recorded track behind her and the band as you could hear other voices on the chorus of the songs but even if through electronic wizardry she really was lip syncing, in the end who cares? It was just a half-time performance at the Grey Cup and I have more important things to waste my time analyzing.
