Colder temperatures brought a smaller turnout to the annual Gord Slater Jacket Drive and Kids Mini Carnival, but the group still managed to keep many young people in the surrounding area warm this year with several donations.

Organizer Gord Slater said that despite the small crowd who braved the weather, a huge number of winter items were donated to the event.

“We had a great response this year. We are able to donate over 300 to 350 pairs of winter mittens, toques, jackets and hats to the Boys and Girls Clubs, the Food Bank and the Battleford’s Indian Metis Friendship Center,” Slater said.

He added the group is looking at having another jacket drive in the not too distant future to offset the low turnout at the first event.
