It's going to cost the City of Saskatoon nearly 400-thousand dollars more each year once the Remai Modern Art Gallery of Saskatchewan opens, and even more costs could be on the horizon.
A report to the city's Governance and Priorities Committee projects the costs by the city for Remai Modern will be 1-point-6-7 million dollars for 2018, up from 1-point-2-7 million this year.
Around 225-thousand dollars would go towards adding the equivalent of 3-point-6 more full time positions for custodial, resident building operator and trades positions.
The remaining 170-thousand dollars would be added to the city's expenses through the Civic Buildings Comprehensive Maintenance Reserve for repairs. City administration estimates another 1-million dollars will need to be put into the reserve for the art gallery, but notes it can be phased in over the next 5 years.
