The City of Saskatoon has made some reductions to the 2018 property tax, but it's currently nowhere near the 2.55 per cent residents paid this year.
Last month, city administration pegged the projected property tax increase at 6.97 per cent to cover over 6 million dollars in lost revenue from municipal revenue sharing and grants-in-lieu from 2017. However, the city says they have been able to save over a million dollars through both lower insurance premiums and offsetting half of the impact of the province's PST increases for city buildings. With the reduction, the property tax still sits at 6.48 per cent. The city says they will work towards further reducing the property tax before 2018 budget deliberations.
