Saskatoon’s Steven Laycock takes a 1-3 record into Tuesday’s game at the Roar of the Rings against defending champion and Olympic Gold Medalist Brad Jacobs.
The Bridge City crew had a 5-4 lead Tuesday until Reid Carruthers took the game over with a deuce in the eighth end. followed by steals of one and three in the ninth and 10th ends to close out the 9-5 victory over Laycock’s lads.
Jacobs raised his record to 2-1 with Tuesday’s 7-4 win over world champion Brad Gushue. Jacobs took control when Gushue’s final rock in the second end picked and rolled sideways allowing Jacobs to steal and take a 4-0 lead.
Heading into Tuesday morning action at the Canadian Olympic Curling Trials in Ottawa, Kevin Koe was the men’s leader at 4-0 while defending Olympic Champion Jennifer Jones led the ladies field at 4-0.
