The United Way wants to stuff a Saskatoon Transit bus full of supplies for vulnerable people in Saskatoon and the agencies that provide help for them.
The bus will be parked outside of Civic Square downtown today (Wed) for the United Way Community Kick-Off. CEO Shaun Dyer says the supplies they are looking for address their three areas of focus: moving people out of poverty, building a strong community, and helping kids be all they can be, from hygiene items to toques and socks for all ages, to even art supplies for kids. Dyer says "we want to change people's lives so they can live well in our community and thrive, so that means moving people out of poverty into possibility...the barriers and the hurdles that people face when they are dealing with poverty can be daunting, so we are working with our partners to help remove those barriers. The barbecue starts at 11:30 a.m. but you can bring items to stuff the bus until 1:30 p.m. Last year, the United Way raised 5.3 million dollars.
