Conversations about science and religion and what happens when the two intertwine is what a new Saskatchewan research institute is promoting.
The main mission for the Saskatchewan Center for Science and Religion is to encourage conversations about human enhancement, artificial intelligence and spirituality. Center spokesperson and University of Saskatchewan Sociology Professor, Hongming Cheng, says their first international conference has speakers from around the world including the Director of Engineering for Google. Ray Kurzweil is also a futurist and author. His vision includes humans merging with machines within the next 3 to 4 decades. Another topic is how artificial intelligence may make spirituality obsolete or augment it. The conference is in Vancouver this Friday and Saturday but Cheng says highlights will be posted on their website. Next year the conference will be in Saskatoon.
