There were over 400 suggestions for the name of the North Commuter Parkway Bridge, which are now whittled down to 4.
A committee of Metis and First Nation leaders, elders and City representatives chose 2 historical figures and 2 Cree words as potential names, in the spirit of reconciliation. They are Chief Mistawasis, Louis Riel, Waniska and Wicihitowin. Waniska means to arise and Wichihitowin means to help mutually, or the act of helping one another. The names were revealed at a special event at the Roxy Theatre Tuesday afternoon with students and local community groups on hand.
