A ship from Canada's Navy named after the City of Saskatoon has been part of a large drug seizure off the coast of Central America.
HMCS Saskatoon, in cooperation with the United States Coast Guard seized about 660 kilograms of cocaine on March 12th. It's all a part of Operation Martillo, an interagency, multinational effort to regional security and deter crime. HMCS Saskatoon intercepted a suspicious vessel and then launched an inflatable boat to halt and board it. Three suspected smugglers were apprehended and about 33 bales of cocaine were recovered from both the boat and the ocean after the suspects tried to throw their cargo overboard.
