A public inquest will be held the week of January 15th into the death of 22 year old Kevin Umpherville.
He was found unresponsive in his cell at the Saskatoon Correction Centre in December of 2015. He was taken to Royal University Hospital where he died on January 15th of 2016. The Chief Coroner must hold an inquest when someone dies while an inmate at a jail or correctional facility unless the coroner is satisfied that the death was due to natural causes and was not preventable. The inquest will try to establish, when and where death occurred and the medical cause and manner of death. Recommendations can be made to prevent similar deaths. Brent Gough of Saskatoon will preside. The inquest will take place at the Sandman Hotel at 310 Circle Drive in Saskatoon.
