The first warm-weather long weekend of the year is almost upon us, and SGI is reminding motorists to take care on the roads.
Spokesperson Tyler McMurchy says while impaired driving will be the main focus for police across Saskatchewan, it won't be the only one. They will also be watching for distracted drivers, the number two cause for fatal collisions in the province. Speeding and seatbelt use are 2 other areas police will focus on. Sgt Patrick Barbar with the Saskatoon Police Service says they will have additional resourced dedicated to traffic enforcement this weekend in Saskatoon and surrounding areas with the Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan Unit, which includes municipal police and the RCMP. High visibility check stops are planned for each night of the long weekend in the city and on Saskatchewan highways . Barbar adds a reminder to slow to 60 km/h when passing any emergency vehicles stopped on the side of the highway when their lights are flashing.
