The official opposition has received a petition to present to the provincial government which highlights concerns about the Quill Lakes drainage proposal.
Critic Cathy Sproule explains that the Quill Lakes Watershed Association is proposing to redirect saline water from Kutawagan and Pel Lakes into Last Mountain lake, which would then flow through the rest of the Qu'Appelle River chain. Environment Minister Dustin Duncan says the project will be scrutinized closely before any decisions are made. The Ministry and the Water Security Agency are working on it. He explains it's not just about closing one or two legs of drainage. It needs to be a network approach.
