Lori Green, the Executive Director of the Massage Therapist Association of Saskatchewan says that without legislation to regulate the industry, the public and the profession are at risk.
That's why the association asked the Sask. Party and NDP leadership candidates, if they support the creation of a self-regulating College of Massage Therapists. Part of its duties would be to create a code of conduct, and public complaint process. Only Gord Wyant of the Saskatchewan Party committed to introducing legislation during his first year as Premier. Scott Moe of the Sask. Party supports the creation of a college but without giving a timeline. Alanna Koch, Tina Beaudry-Mellor, and Rob Clarke, all of the Sask. Party, refused to respond. These are the same three people who refused to sign the Canadian Taxpayer's Federation Pledge to balance the budget and not impose any major tax increases - if elected. Everyone else answering the therapist's question was non-committal.
