So far, about 250 patients are estimated to have been impacted by delayed referral and follow-up letters to specialists and the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority and 3sHealth report that there was a process issue in dictation and transcription. All letters that hadn't been sent, were immediately sent when the issue was discovered. The SHA says an investigation has been launched to determine the scope and at this point is ongoing. Patients affected will be contacted by the SHA and all physicians who may have been impacted are working with the SHA and 3sHealth to investigate any potential harm to patients because of the delay in distribution of these follow-up and referral letters.
