Late last month in just one night there were numerous calls to the Battlefords RCMP about shots being fired, which led to a number of targeted enforcement initiatives.
The incidents on November 29th include bullet holes found in the exterior or a home in North Battleford while on another street, 3 males armed with guns kicked in a front door and stole some items before taking off in a stolen vehicle. Extra officers were brought in including Police Dog Services, Traffic Services, an Emergency Response Team and specialized drug and gang enforcement teams. Police say this was a direct response to the recent rash of criminal activity in the area. Actions include several arrest warrants, dozens of charges laid, and 75 files resulting in charges have been opened, and police say they are not done yet.
On Tuesday night in North Battleford, the RCMP executed multiple search warrants in connection to an ongoing crime investigation. Residents may have noticed increased police presence at a home on 33rd Street in Battleford, at a hotel in North Battleford and in the parking lot of a business on Railway Avenue East. Officers, including the RCMP Emergency Response Team, were on scene to ensure the public's safety. No firearms were discharged, but other tools that produce similar sounds were used. Two firearms were seized, a quantity of what is suspected to be cocaine and crustal meth and other drug paraphernalia. Five people, two men and three women, were arrested. No charges have been laid as the investigation continues.
