A report goes to the City of Saskatoon Transportation Committee meeting on Tuesday that will give councillors some options around dealing with Transportation Network Companies such as Uber.
Shelley Sutherland, Director of Corporate Revenue says a bylaw could be drafted covering all types of vehicles for hire. She says report topics centre on regulating TNCs and what that would look like, what regulations for taxi's should look like to find balance, ways to increase taxi licences, and whether council wants the city to look at the affordability of taxi service. Last week, the province introduced legislation that would set out a framework for licensing and insurance for transportation network companies. It also gives municipalities the authority to determine the right public transportation mix for their communities.
