The overall grade for Saskatoon and area's economy remains a 'C' from the Saskatoon Regional Economic Development Authority's fourth quarter of 2016 Economic Dashboard.
It's a report that looks at areas like GDP, employment, housing, retail, and business licenses to determine the city's economic position. SREDA President and CEO, Alex Fallon, says we have a few things going in our favour like population growth, retail sales were up slightly from 2015, continued infrastructure spending, and a boom in the tech sector. On the other side, the resource sector is experiencing a slowdown, but it's the region's diversified economic base that helps to counterbalance that. In the same quarter of 2015, SREDA graded Saskatoon and area a B-minus, coming off several years of sustained growth.
