Apartment fire considered suspicious: Police

An apartment fire that led to three minor injuries and displaced roughly a dozen families might not be accidental.

Prince Albert Police Service spokesperson Alanna Adamko said the early investigation determined the fire was suspicious in nature, and as a result the ongoing investigation was handed over to city police.

The fire is being investigated as a criminal incident, Adamko said, but no charges have yet been laid.

The fire broke out Tuesday evening at an apartment building on 28th St. E. in the city’s Crescent Heights neighbourhood. The building had to be evacuated during the blaze, and the Red Cross arranged emergency shelter for the refugees. Parkland Ambulance paramedics cared for three people who suffered minor injuries and one firefighter was briefly hospitalized, but he returned to work the next morning.
