It's my Parting Shot for my Monday Musings...or week off musings...
The N-H-L Draft was held over the weekend. As per usual, all the pre-picking hype about big trades really never materialized...unless you're a Calgary Flames' fan and you think the acquisition of Brian Elliott from St. Louis to play goal is a blockbuster-type of move. For the record, I don't...but I was intrigued, like many were, by the Finnish G-M of Columbus not taking a pretty good Finnish player. We'll see how that turns out, but I'm willing to bet Jarmo Kekalainen's intel on Jesse Puljujarvi is better than anything the so-called experts have!
I'm very happy for Libor Hajek...the Saskatoon Blades' defenceman, via the Czech Republic, was taken about where he was expected to...early in the second round by a Tampa Bay team that made a deal to make sure they got him!
Speaking of the Blades, I had no prior knowledge of the hockey operations shuffle from last Thursday until late that morning. For me, it's bittersweet news that Bob Woods is going back to the N-H-L. I'm thrilled that he's getting a chance back in the show in Buffalo, but sad that he won't be able to finish what he started with the Bridge City Bunch. On the other hand, I know the situation is in very good hands with Colin Priestner, Steve Hildebrand and Dean Brockman...a situation I will delve into deeper during this feature tomorrow!
Speaking of upcoming editions of this feature, the Fearless Predictor will be back Wednesday with season prognostications for the C-F-L and Week 2 game picks. I can say, without fear of being called out, that I wouldn't have gotten a single opening week game correct...so I've already got a bit of a hole to climb out of!
