Hilltops win seventh straight PFC title

After a huge semifinal win over Edmonton, the Saskatoon Hilltops had an even bigger performance this weekend to retain their title as Prairie Football Conference Champions.

Facing an undefeated Regina Thunder squad at Mosaic Stadium, the Hilltops came away with the 29-9 victory. Hilltops coach Tom Sargeant credited the program’s history of playing in championship contests as a major factor in the win, while also praising their opponents.

“They bring out the best in us and I hope we bring out the best in them and at the end of the day, we executed our plan better than they did.”

This is the seventh straight league title for the junior football club, interrupted only by pandemic restrictions resulting in the cancelation of the 2020 season.

Saskatoon features multiple local talents, including quarterback Damon Dutton. The North Battleford Comprehensive alum had two rushing touchdowns in the win.

The Hilltops now head out to B.C. to face the Langley Rams in the Canadian Junior Football League semifinal. If victorious, they will try to win their 23rd national Championship, making that 10 in 11 seasons.
